How to Register a Domain Name for Your Website

So, you have finally found the Domain Name of your choice. That's good. The difficult part is over, now lets move on to register it before someone else does!

If you need help in choosing a Domain Name, see How to choose a Domain Name.

Domain Name Registrars

You may have heard about this term before. If not, it's nothing special. Domain Name Registrars are companies that administer domain names. You have to contact them when you want to buy (register) a domain name. You just pay them a fee and they register the domain name for you.

How Much Does it Cost to Register a Domain Name?

Now a days, Domain names come cheap. A brand new unregistered domain name can be bought for around 10 U.S. Dollars annually and much cheaper if you buy it in some deal with other services like hosting or email.

On the other hand, if you want to buy an already registered name, say a parked domain for example, then you will have to contact the owner and pay the price he/she demands, which can be anything from tens to hundreds to thousands of dollars!

Private Registration

When you register a domain name with a registrar, you enter details like your name, contact and email address. This information is made public for any one to view who wishes to inquire about your domain name. A simple search using Domain Tool's Whois Tool will reveal this information.

Although this may be useful if some one wishes to contact you, but this will bring a lot of spam to your inbox. So, to avoid spam, its better if your contact details are not shown. Of course, you can provide some sort of contacting method (such as a form) on your website for people to contact you.

Private Registration is a term that Domain Registrars use to hide your contact information from public viewing. Some Registrars will show this facility by the name of "whois protection". Some Registrars give this facility for free and some charge additional fee for it. So, if you want to stay away for spam or be anonymous for any reason, private registration is for you.

Domain Parking

If you have a Web Hosting plan already, you can setup the server information given to you by your web host in you Domain account. If you don't have a hosting account yet, you can leave it for the registrar to park it.

Some Domain Name Registrars

Here are some short listed Domain Registrars that you can use to buy Domain Names at lower prices.

Now act quickly, buy the Domain Name of your choice before some one else takes it!
